It is not important . It is just that tyre technology advancement has allowed for thin profile tyres to survive the conditions thick profile 13 inch tyres can survive . And that is why FIA wants to adopt 18 inch tyres .Maybe they have the plan to homologate F2 and F1 tyres in order to save costs but nothing can be said of that as of now . Though the thing that is important ,is the wheel cover as it greatly improves the aerodynamics
